One of the oldest MBA programs in India, FMS has placements comparable to any other top B School. The flip side is that being affiliated to a university, it does not enjoy enough flexibility in its operations and also is not a fully residential program.
FMS has its own entrance test and is generally held on 2nd Sunday of January. The pattern of the paper is mostly similar to other exams and it also has a section on Business Awareness.

The best institute after XLRI for PM & IR. A intensive program that requires a student to work closely with as many as four different companies for project work and also being on the forefront on social work like lending a helping hand in the Orissa floods and the Gujarat earthquake, definitely adds a lot of value to the students. However the only specialization offered is PM & IR.

The institute offers specialization in Marketing Management, Finance Management, Manufacturing Management, International Business and Information Management. The only slight drawback for a student is that he has to choose a specialization while applying to the institute and would be considered only for that specialization. At most other B Schools one has to choose a specialization only after the first year, when one would have a decent idea about all specializations. The school accepts the CAT score for admission purpose and sets its own Cut-off. Every candidate has to go through a Group discussion (GD) followed by a Personal Interview (PI).

Located in the commercial capital of India does help JBIMS in its placement and is another institute definitely worth applying to. By being affiliated to the University of Mumbai, not only does it lose on the flexibility in operations, but also has to follow the reservation rules laid down by the Directorate of Technical Education. Thus only 15% of seats are available for a student graduating from any other University in Maharashtra than Mumbai University and only 10% for students graduating from outside Maharashtra. So admission to this school is very tough because of less number of seats for candidates from other states. The admission to JBIMS is through Common Entrance Test (CET).

As the name suggests the institute specializes in and is the best for Personnel Management and Industrial Relations (PM&IR). However, its BMD program for other specializations like Marketing, Finance is also as good as the IIMs. Like the IIMs XLRI has its own entrance test (XAT). The XAT is also the entrance test for Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar.

IIMs are autonomous institutes set up by Human Resource ministry of Government of India and are undoubtedly the best of the lot. There are six IIMs namely Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Lucknow, Khozikode and Indore. The institutes offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and are fully residential programs.

The top four IIMs (Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore and Lucknow) are way above the other two and are considered the country’s top 4 by most surveys. IIMA is the best of the lot and is one of the best in the world, as a result of which the placements are at times beyond comprehension.
